This week (I know many places this began last week from my sister, the fountain of all knowledge) our local area movie theaters (Regal and Cinemark) started their summer movie “madness.”
Today, Muffin and I attended a showing of The Nut Job at our closest Regal Movie Theater. Muffin had seen it before, but he loved watching it.
Let me let you in on how this works (if you are not already familiar with both). This is our third (?) summer of taking Muffin to the movies using the Regal Summer Movie Express. This year, they seem to have newer movies, including some of Muffin’s absolute faves. An added bonus this year: if you attend all 9 weeks, you get a passport stamp for each week that you attend. Attendance all 9 weeks earns you a free movie ticket (probably to Hotel Transylvania 2, one of the sponsors of the Summer Movie Express). Regal charges $1 per movie (with two movies offered per week) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m.
Here is the schedule:
Week 1: Annie (the new one) and The Nut Job
Week 2: Earth to Echo and The Boxtrolls
Week 3: Paddington (Muffin loves this one!) and Turbo
Week 4: (The week that my in-laws will be here) Rio 2 and How to Train Your Dragon 2
Week 5: Peabody and Sherman and The Book of Life
Week 6: Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and Penguins of Madagascar
Week 7: Madagascar 3 (Circus Movie!) and Dolphin Tale 2
Week 8: Muppets Most Wanted and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day
Week 9: The Lego Movie and The Sp0ongebob Movie
Guess which one we are going to see Week 9? I’ll give you a hint: “Everything Is Awesome!)
Cinemark doesn’t do the “passport thing,” but it does allow you to prepay for 10 movies for $5 or pay a $1 per movie at the door. They call theirs the Summer Movie Clubhouse and offer a flyer to receive a popcorn and a drink for $2.75 in addition to the great movie price. Cinemark offers their movies Monday-Thursday at 10:00, but they only offer one movie a week (so no choice).
Here’s the schedule:
Week 1: The Croods
Week 2: The Lego Movie
Week 3: Dolphin Tale 2
Week 4: Peabody and Sherman
Week 5: Penguins of Madagascar
Week 6: Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb
Week 7: How to Train Your Dragon 2
Week 8: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
Week 9: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
Week 10: The Nut Job
So, guess what movie we might go see next week at Cinemark?
What are your plans for summer movie entertainment?
